Fleet Build - Mothma's MC-30s

Wave 2 was finally released to day!  That meant I was able to round my Wave 2 collection from what I had been fortunate to win during Massing at Sullust Events.  Having multiples of some of the Wave 2 ships has me eager to try out some lists that I have been sitting on for awhile.  First up?  Building a list to see what I can get out of the MC-30.  




Basic Plan & Formation - I'd used one MC-30 with Ackbar/Home One to good effect in the past, but felt like there was more to the ships if I'd figured out how to use it.  In theory, the MC-30 is the best anti-gunline ship in the game.  It should be fast enough to get in front of anyone and wait there.  I don't feel like I know enough about the ship to have a specific formation in mind, but my plan is to try to get out in front of the opposing fleet and wait for them to fly into the MC-30's kill zone.  Knowing that, I will definitely want at least 5 activations I think.

Core Ships - Given the purpose of the fleet, a couple of MC-30s seems like the obvious choice.  I'm going to go ahead and try out one of each model to see what I think.  Given that I know I want plenty of activations I won't be bringing anything larger than an MC-30.

Admiral - One of the odd features of the MC-30 is the double Evade, but the need to get
close where they are much less useful.  So, I am going with Mon Mothma to try to make the most of those Evades.

Support Ships - I'd like to bring at least 3 more ships in as support for the MC-30s.  Given that I have Mon Mothma, the CR-90 makes a lot of sense.  I am going to go ahead and use one of each model here as well.  If I had 3 of them I'd bring 3 CR-90s.  As I only have 2, I will bring a Nebulon-B Support as the 5th ship in the fleet.

Upgrades - When I am first figuring ships out I try to use minimal upgrades.  It makes it easier to parse out what effects are the ship versus the potential from the upgrades.  Still, I will use some.  I think that I will put Mon Mothma on the MC-30 Scout and give it the Foresight title.  That should be the safest spot in my fleet for her.  Some Turbolaser Reroute Circuits should help get the most out of its red dice.  The MC-30 Torpedo will get Assault Proton Torpedoes and Ordnance Experts just to see what they can do.

The CR-90s will get Overload Pulse on the B model and Turbolaser Reroute Circuits (TRC) on the A.  I will also give the A model the Jaina's Light title to help it shoot through other ships.

Squadrons - I don't have a ton of points left for squadrons, but that seems okay.  Now that I have Jan Ors, I want to try her paired with a couple of X-Wings.  I want to see how well that setup works on the table.  That leaves me with enough points to try out a YT-2400 to play around with Rogue a bit.  It's a pretty small squadron allotment, so I have to hope that the Jan/X-Wing combo is resilient enough to last for awhile.

Objectives - I think there is some potential for Opening Salvo with this fleet, but Most Wanted is probably the safer choice.  Dangerous Territory seems like a pretty good fit and for yellow, I think I will try Hyperspace Assault.  That MC-30 Torpedo would be pretty nasty jumping in to someone's flank.

I'm really not sold on the objectives, but otherwise am really curious to see how this will play out.  As usual, I will post up some battle reports once I get to try it out.  What do you think?

  1. I think MC-30 will work great in an Ackbar list. Scout version with TRC will be better suitable for that.

    I don't think that being at Black dice range will be healthy for a MC30. You will have no evade an Mothma will be useless.

    I'm toying around with a Rebel Swarm list with Mon Mothma, but I favor long range engagement to close quarters battle (Salvation, Redemption, Jaina's, Foresight, a Overload Pulse Cr90B, 2xYT2400 and Dash).

    Squadron activation is be a problem so I'm trying to use the most of "rogues".

    1. I think the key will no be moving into black dice range, but to move so that my opponent comes to me before I 'shoot and scoot'.

  2. The thing that makes me nervous about this list is the count of hull points. 16 hp is almost the same as a single Motti ISD. Keeping at range would be imperative, which implies fewer blue dice ships. Personally I am thinking about an AF IIB, MC30 scout and 3 x CR90A list with Ackbar.

    1. Sorry, 21 with the Neb! But still feels quite fragile such that distance and speed will be key to survival.

    2. It makes me nervous too! This list is really reliant on Mon Mothma and those evades. More so than that, maneuvering will be key. I will need to use the 5 activations I get to put myself in favorable positions. I expect I will be making heavy use of Navigate commands to keep myself out of trouble.
