Armada Regional Tournament Locations Announced!

FFG has posted the locations of the US Regional Tournaments for Armada and their other game systems.  You can find the full list here.

Some has already put together a map, so it is easy to find the event closest to you.  Check it out here

I am actually planning on running the event at Dice Age Games in Vancouver, WA.  If you're able to attend that one make sure to introduce yourself as a reader of the blog.  I'm also eyeballing the event in Tacoma, WA.  It's close enough that I may head up there so that I can play in a regional as well.

Hopefully FFG will announce the prize support soon!

5 Ships is the New Black

In my local area we've now had 2 of our store championships.  Both of these were won by similar, 5-ship Rebel lists.  If you read the FFG Armada forums, then you are likely aware of a 5-ship Imperial list that won a recent, large vassal tournament.  These wins reinforce my own perception that activation advantage is a huge benefit in competitive Armada and one that you need to account for as you prepare your own fleets.

Threat Radius Analysis

Recently, FFG forum member clontroper5 posted an excellent guide to threat radius of each ship in Armada.  I thought it was a great resource, so with his permission I am re-posting it here.

Falling out of love with the Assault Frigate

When all we had for Armada was the wave 1 ships, the Rebel Assault Frigate MkII was far and away my favorite ship.  It had a fantastic blend of firepower, toughness, and survivability that made it fun on the table top, even if it looked a little odd at times.  Lately though I find myself playing with them less frequently and when I do, being a bit underwhelmed by their performance.

Heading Back to GenCon!

Thanks to a much larger than expected tax return, my wife encouraged me to head back to GenCon again this year.  So, that means another crack at the Armada North American Championships!  I don't expect to replicate my success from last year, but I will definitely be shooting for a top 10 finish.  Hopefully some of the same players will be there as last year, as it was a really good group of guys.

I'm also looking at playing in another Store Championships this Sunday, at Guardian Games in Portland, OR.  I've been testing an Imperial list that I really like, with a fun new formation that is working well so far.  I will write up a post on the formation after the tournament as I don't want to give my strategy away beforehand.

2016 Dice Age Store Championships

Yesterday I had the opportunity to both play in and TO the Armada Store Championships at Dice Age Games.  This is the first tournament season for Armada and with wave 2 out there, I was really curious to see how everything would play out.

It's been quiet here...

Well, it's certainly been longer between posts here than I had planned.  I work as a teacher and had all kinds of plans to update this blog over my break.  Needless to say that didn't happen.  That isn't to say that I didn't get the chance to play plenty of Armada while I was off work.  I just didn't take the time to write about it.  I have been working on a few things behind the scenes:
  1. Some friends and I took a day and play tested my Armada/X-Wing/Imperial Assault crossover campaign and it went really well.  I've revised the rules and will be posting them to a page here soon.  We are planning to run the campaign at the FLGS in February.
  2. I've also been working on a beginner's guide to Armada page that will hopefully be a good resource for new players getting into the hobby.
  3.  I'm also signed up to run a Store Championship at the end of the month.  Look for a report on how it goes here.  After that there will be a few other championships in the following months that I hope to play in.
  4. In the near future I have some posts in mind about how you can use ships to compliment each other as well as some tips on flying ships closely together.
Other than that I am looking forward to my first Winter Season tournament next weekend and am eagerly anticipating the announcement of Wave 3 like every other Armada player.

So, stay tuned.  More content is on the way.
