Corellian Conflict - Turn 3

After sweeping the last round of games the Rebels were wondering if this is the week that the Empire would strike back?  It was time for another turn of the Dice Age Games Corellian Conflict Campaign.

Attacks

After losing a pair of base attacks and having their hyperlanes raided successfully the Imperial fleets were looking for vengeance this week.  They had however become wary of the significant defenses that the Rebels had erected around their bases and opted instead to attack a pair of suspected Rebel outposts.

Despite having just lost a supply convoy there, Admiral Ozzel started with an attack on the planet Drall whose diplomats had been busy preventing any further Imperial attacks on Corellia itself.  Admiral Ackbar brought his fleet to the defense of the planet.  Ozzel chose to test out the ability of the Rebels to gain Long-Range Intel during the battle.

Mon Mothma launched a 3rd Hyperlane Raid, this time on Truuzdann.  The Rebels felt that one more raid would help get them the supplies needed to liberate the sector.  Sensing trouble, Lord Vader again moved to block the raid with his force of twin ISDs.

That left Moff Jerjerrod to launch an assault on the Rebel presence in the New Plympto system.  The Imperials found an outpost that was testing out Targeting Beacons and a fleet led by Garm bel Iblis.

Battle Results

Ozzel used the Imperial Spynet to try and get a deployment advantage and out flank Ackbar's gunline.  Ackbar was hoping to use the advanced sensors on Home One to help win the Long Range Intel around the planet.  The position of the dust clouds prevented long range shooting early in the battle.  Eventually the ISD was destroyed by combined Rebel fire and the combination of Jan, Biggs, and Gallant Haven was too much for the Imperial squadrons who died attacking the Rebels.  Both Luke and Biggs earned Veteran status in the battle.  The Interdictor was able to sneak around the dust clouds and work with Demolisher to cripple Home One.  Despite both sides losing a large ship, the battle went to the Rebels who claimed several objective tokens and won the squadron battle.

Jerjerrod's attack on New Plympto and its Targeting Beacons got off to a strong start when the Rebels mis-deployed Yavaris allowing the ISD to sweep the flank free of squadron interference.  In the end, the Rebels were battered with only the Liberty escaping to Hyperspace.  The Imperials established a base on New Plympto to ensure no further Rebel presence there.

Having failed at a raid earlier against this same fleet, Mothma took a very cautious approach.  The battle was close and tense.  Neither ISD was killed and made it to the opposite deployment zone to score objective points.  The Rebels were able to kill the 2 Decimators hauling objectives.  In the end, the game was decided by 1 VP.  No ships killed and 4 squadrons lost on each side.  The Rebels scored one more VP based on a slight difference in squadron cost and it was down to the final rolls.  Still, that 1 VP difference helped the Rebels secure 80 additional Resource Points.

Campaign Score

Rebels 5 - Imperials 0

This was the closest round yet.  I feel like the campaign is quite a bit closer to even than the 5-0 score would imply.  The Imperials went for softer targets to hamper the Rebels this round, but that kept them from scoring points.  None of the battles were especially destructive, so everyone now has a fleet at or approaching 500 points.

The Imperials know that if they are going to come back they need to take some high value targets next round.
The fleet lists after Round 3 are below.  Veterans are bolded, while Scarred units are in red.

  1. How come the Ozzel player has 515 fleet points?

    1. We're letting players spend resources over the 500 limit. But they have to leave off upgrades they don't want to get under 500 for the game.

  2. How are you guys doing with knowing the fleets on the other side? Do you have perfect (non objective) knowledge, or are you just like, "well, here's what they had last time..." or what?

    1. We kept them secret before the first round. Since then it has been open knowledge.
